Installing Ardour on a Windows machine with Defender

  1. Windows 11 may flag the Ardour installer download as "uncommon" and display this warning message in the browser. These screens shots are from Microsoft Edge. Other browsers will display a similar message.

  2. To bypass this download warning, click the menu (3 dots) beside the downloaded file and then select "Keep" from the menu.

  3. This screen may or may not appear depending on the current SmartScreen status of the Ardour installer being downloaded. If this message appears, click "Show More"

  4. Click "Keep anyway"

  5. The download process is now complete. Click "Open file" to start the Ardour installer.

  6. Click the "More info" text near the top.

  7. Click "Run anyway"

  8. Click "Yes"

  9. Click "I Agree" after reviewing the license.

  10. The default options are good for most users but can be adjusted as needed. Click "Next" to proceed.

  11. Click "Install" to use the default installation location.

  12. Wait for the installation to complete.

  13. Click Finsh.
