Initial Support for Frontier Design Tranzport in Ardour 2.0
Frontier Design kindly donated one of their Tranzport wireless control surfaces to the project. Within a few hours, transport control was operational and Ardour could use the LCD screen. There is lots more work to be done on the control surface infrastructure, but we expect full support for the Tranzport within a few days. For now, this is as good as it gets:

Looking at the Tranzport'er and using this with the Ardour, is great. I just absolutely love this Tranzport'ers, it has all the functionality that you want. This is a perfect match and is the perfect gizmo pair up.Looking forward to use ardour with the Tranzport.

I am assuming the maker (Frontier Design Group) is being supportive!!! That is awesome... The more hardware manufactures do this kind of thing... The better for everyone.
Wireless and USB... (Perhaps some Bluetooth serial standard aka BT Profiles like SPP or HID). [update, not BT but custom DSS transiever on same 2.4GHz for that that want to know -- result is increase battery life for one thing!]
Just means one more thing that will make people "MORE" eager for Ardour2 !!! *smile* I am already eager to research various Mackie Control API (I think I saw this being added to Ardour2) ..

And then there are the buttons and knobs. Physical interfaces that establish a direct link between gesture and action (such as buttons, knobs, keys, strings, pipes, and skins) just plain work better for music. That's because art is a language of feeling (think of the root meanings of "aesthetic" and "anesthetic"), and feeling is experienced in the body. With the mouse, many gestures are redefined and scaled down to something...well, mousy. The TranzPort is not the first control surface to give you buttons and knobs. But the others usually don't let you pick them up and carry them around.

I installed the TranzPort driver from the included CD onto my 1.5GHz G4 PowerBook running OS 10.4.6 (Tiger). Installation was fast and easy, but I don't know how much of a recommendation that is for the TranzPort, since installation of just about anything is fast and easy on Macs. To use the TranzPort with some applications, you may need to download a driver update from Frontier's website. After the driver installation (Frontier says the "after" is important), you connect the TranzPort's wireless interface to a USB port.

After a very long gestation, the frontier design tranzport and alphatrack drivers are being included in the Linux kernel.
A tranzport driver that uses this interface is also (after a very long gestation) nearing completion, after numerous missteps. The current, libusb based driver has numerous problems, including unreliable input and display, and a scroll wheel that generates events far too fast for ardour to keep up.

OK, not using jackdmp but jackd seems to make the connection to the LAN stable. But on the other hand, I get a couple of xruns as I open or close some programs. I am not sure about what jackdmp does that removes all xruns but the LAN thing is certainly an issue to me
