How do I .... ?

Questions about how to carry DAW-related tasks with Ardour

export session does not run hardware inserts

I have an 8/8 interface that I can dedicate to the use of hardware inserts.

In a project I've set up an insert on my mixdown track so that I can run the channel through some outboard mastering gear.

When playing back, it works great, I can use the real hardware as an insert on my mix channel. However, I find that when I want to export my master, the export process happens in non-realtime, skipping completely the processing through my hardware inserts. This is not the desired result.

What defines a "Pro" DAW?

As a little background to this question, I was at a meeting today in my college's record studio (by meeting, we were all geeking out over mics, pres, how to improve our studio, etc.). In this meeting I entered into a fairly heated debate over what constitutes a "professional" DAW (one of my fellow engineers is an avid fanboy and user of protools LE as I have ever seen in person...).

any one knows online jamsessions sites.

I am not sure if this is the right forums to ask but I been thinking of trying to find a site where useres are allowed to be creating jamsessions . I cant afford any pricing on such service so it shall have to be free. also I been a linux user for some time and while I still have a xp set up and use sonar 4 I will also want it to be possible to use as example ardour to record tracks and upload.

I am used to sitting at home and record my own songs but need to play with others to become better guitarist . also I am not a proffesional in anyway. strictly hobby based interests.

Newbie Yamaha DTX Recording Drums with Ardour

hEY gUYS,

I'm new to Ardour and am wanting to record my Yamaha DTX kit via Ardour, i have a midi - usb cable as well connected to either a desktop pc or a laptop.
I know with Pro Tools that there was a drum kit tool you could get that would adjust the mic and samples etc.. i think it was called BFD.
Is there any equivalent for Ardour, preferably freeware, or low cost ?

Your help is most appreciated.

How to I add a plug-in to a track?

I installed swh-plugins with my distrobution's package manager, I just can't seem to find where the plug-ins are locared in Ardour

how to separate the click-track?

hello!

i have Edirol UA-25 soundcard and i want to use it for live-performance - output loops to main output and have metronome click in my headphones.
how can i disable metronome click in main output while still having it in the headphone output?

Resample Sessions

I've just got some new hardware which allows me to record at 48000 instead of 44100, but this means i need to resample my old sessions to 48000.
I've tried the resample_session.pl file that was suggested in a thread i found on this forum but it appears to be extremely old and looks for a /sounds directory that is no longer used in the latest versions of ardour. Does anybody know what can be done?

Using jack_delay correctly

I think I'm missing something. I'm trying to use jack_delay to get an input latency because there's a bit of a delay on playback, which will mess me up when recording new tracks while listening to old ones. With frames/period set to 2048 (below that, I get xruns), jack_delay gives me 42.667 ms. The value reported by jack_delay minus the jack period size is a large negative number (42.667 - 2048?).

Slaving External Drum Machine to Ardour's MIDI clock

Hello,

I've spent hours already reading and trying to figure this out so I thought it was time I tried asking for help.

I've got an Alesis SR-16 that I want to slave to Ardour so that when recording all my beats are synced to the timeline already. I'm running a UNO midisport 1x1 usb from the computer to the SR-16. I've got the proper driver installed for the midisport device and the light is flashing appropriately.

In JACK, under the ALSA tab, I have connected the 3 Ardour outputs to the midisport input.

Copying Session across to another Computer

I have written a track on a Laptop using a LIVEUSEB this all works fine. I want to put this on to my main computer so I have just copied across all of the files in the directory and put it on the other machine. But when I run it, it says that the original session was created at 48kHz it I open it every thing runs at the wrong speed. This happens even if I try and run it off my USB stick which is where it was originally created.

If I go back laptop every thing is OK. I have checked Jack on both computers and it is running at 44.1kHz. Currently running Ardour 2.8.2
