Problems, solutions and questions about installing and configuring Ardour on Linux.

wave file with 0 bytes then few tracks are now empty of audio

in

Here is the surprising and regrettable incident at once(at the same time) that arrived at me! And I do not know how it occurred. I explain: I have to ardour 2.8.10 installed.. Furthermore I installed to ardour 3 svn.. I made some tries with ardour 3 svn.. Except the crash when I create a midi track, it seems worked normally..

Monitoring and delay while synced to Renoise

in

Hi

Im trying out Ardour now, and I really like it, but there is one thing I cant figure out. I use jack to sync to Renoise. I can record from Renoise into Ardour by connecting the Renoise output via QJackCtl to Ardour input. I can also monitor the signal from Renoise via Ardour (I disconnect the signal that goes directly from Renoise to System out). But when I playback a recorded track and monitor at the same time, the two signals are not in sync.

When move playhead it starts jumping back and forth, then stops

in

Clock set to internal.
Basically, cannot put playhead into precise position, it keeps jumping back a little after I release it. Sometimes jumps back and forth after I release it.

2.8.10 crashes and quits

in

I've been trying to record to Ardour using OpenOctave as the MIDI master. While recording, two things happen. Shortly after hitting play in OO, which starts record in Ardour, everything freezes for a few seconds, then resumes. After several more seconds, Ardour simply quits. All it leaves behind in a terminal is this:

[f8] MackiePort::handle_midi_any needs 3 bytes, but received [f8]

glitches in audio with no xruns reported...

in

I've been attempting to get ardour to work for a project and have managed to get xruns to a minimum. However, I tried recording a two channel input and there are glitches in the audio, even when no xruns are reported. Checking the settings in qjackctl, there seems to be an option for an xruns threshold so I assume these glitches are xruns that are just not being reported. So how can get rid of these glitches/xruns?

I have added the user to the audio group and have the following settings in limits.conf:

@audio - rtprio 70
@audio - nice -20
@audio - memlock 384138

Installing Newest Version of Ardour

in

I have Ardour installed from the software center in Ubuntu, but their version is not the latest. I have no idea how to "build" Ardour. Is there a software package available of the latest version to download and install without having to become a computer scientist?

Still got the mute problem with 2.8.9 // Font size problem

in

Hi,

i'm new to linux, ubuntu, and ardour... So, i compiled ardour 2.8.9, to avoid the mute problem.

But it still doesn't work... i have to right-click, select what i want... ok for a one-track session, but it becomes a problem while getting more tracks...

Please help !!! i'd just like to click the "M" button, to have the track muted...

Second problem: i choose an 8 font size in the "appearance" menu of ubuntu 10.04. everything goes ok (firefox, desktop...), except ardour, which stays really big big big... and doesn't fit my screen...

How can i solve this problem ?...

Reaching limits after a few tracks? (EMU1212m)

in

I have seen only a few posts on this card, but I am "attempting" to get decent sounds quality out of a EMU1212m card and facing problems with Ardour. In short, I am running Ubuntu Studio 10.4 32 bit with the EMU1212m (really a EMU1010) clocked 44,100 (but tried 48K as well). The card is running isolated on its own IRQ (no ACPI) via the EMU10k1 driver. I am hoping to use this only for its S/PDIF input, but the ADA ports are working too.
