Question about Alesis Multimix16 FW with Ardour

Please forgive me ahead of time, I'm very uneducated tech wise.

My band is about to be demoing, and a friend of ours is going to lend us his Alesis Multimix 16 which is FIREWIRE.

We would love to record the full drum set, guitar, vocals, and bass all in one simultaneous take.

That would be about 10 to 11 tracks all at once. Can Ardour do that?

Thanks!

zoom to region with mixbus - and back to session?

Zoom to Region with alt/cmd-z is okay. But could anybody tell me how it is going back to the complete session view?
Thanks.

I'm new, help!

So I'd like to give this DAW thing a shot, what is a good place to start?

I have some decent mics, playback setup and a mac mini with firewire 8.

I want to use the Ardour for projecty/fun things, nothing too serious, but I don't want crap sound either.

What kind of A to D should I use? Does firewire matter vs usb?

Help!

Thanks in advance.

so slow...

After recording several tracks it now comes to editing. And Ardour turns up to be very slow while moving multiple regions forth and back in the editor window. I checked my Mac's system preferences: I turned off the automatic graphic mode while running the Mac on battery in order to have always the full "graphic power". I checked Ardour>Menu>Options>Performance but none of the tried options seems to have any significant impact. Funny: after restarting Ardour performance is very much better for a while but then it becomes very slow again.

Any ideas?

Cheers

Newbie question about compiling plugins for OSX

Hey all.

I'm wanting to use Ardour for a remix project I have. So far, it seems promising. I have some questions about available plugins. Bear with me as I'm not new to mac, but am a complete newb where Linux/terminal is concerned.

The plugins page lists a bunch of plugin sites. I've had a look at a few of the recommended ones but they all seem to need to be compiled. I'm not quite sure what this means. I gather it's a way of building the plugin into a usable state?

My questions are:

1. Why can't these plugins be available already compiled?

no sound in ardour

There is no sound comming out of ardour mixbus 1.2 & Ardour 2.8.1.1, please help asap.

Freezing

When I try to 'remove a track', the typical window comes up, asking me if I am sure I want to remove the track. When I say "yes", the Mac 'pinwheel' starts spinning, and after a while the program stops responding and I must force quit it. Force quitting results in a problem report, which I'll paste below.

In addition, I am working on a second snapshot of the project, and since this track removal thing started happening, the playback controls have stopped working.

Fixed-time motion broken

In the manual section entitled "Working with Regions", it states that fixed-time motion is possible using the right mouse button. I cannot get this to work in any version of Ardour 2.8 on OS X.

Is there a setting I'm missing to make this possible? It's driving me absolutely batty having to very carefully note the exact time that pops up when dragging starts and then nudging left and right until it ends up at the right time when the region is on the new track.

Searching for Native Instruments effects

Howdy!

There's an error message which opens when Ardour starts up that says the B4 can't be found and needs to be re-installed.

It appears to me that Ardour/something is trying to use several Native Instruments things as FX, and in particular can't find the Battery AU, despite the fact I do not have any these at all.
