Ardour in 2012: what to look forward to

As 2011 draws to a close, I wanted to point people toward the future with a brief summary of what to expect from Ardour in 2012.

3.0 finally released
Its been a long time coming, but two or three more beta releases, and we should be ready to go.
Video tracks added
Robin Gareus (xjadeo and so much more) has been working on this for some time, and as soon as 3.0 is released, we'll merge his work into the mainstream code.
New track canvas
This will improve overall efficiency in the GUI and allow us to do some nice visual things that are either too tricky or not worth implementing until we switch.
At least 400 bug fixes
This one is guaranteed unless Carl Hetherington finds better things to do with his time!
Hopefully make our way through half or more of this list
Unless Chris doubles it in size as time progresses, of course.
New Website
ardour.org will be migrating to Amazon web services early in 2012, for a more responsive website. There will be more improvements and features added to the site after that migration is complete.
Windows Release
Tim Mayberry has had a set of patches for Ardour 3 on Windows for some time. At some point during 2012, I hope we can figure out the logistics of a Windows release along with a community of people who can support the program on that platform.

Of course, very little of this will happen without the continued support of our users and donators. I would like to personally thank everyone who made it possible for me to continue working full time on Ardour during almost all of 2011. Thanks to a little institutional support, it was even possible to divert a (very small) amount of money towards Carl, who has done an astounding amount of work on Ardour over the last year. Whenever people are paid to work on software, that software is made possible by its users, and this is no less true of Nuendo or Reaper than it is of Ardour. But it has always been a real privilege and delight to be so close to the user community, and I continue to look forward to interactions (for all the right and all the wrong reasons) with all of you, both on IRC and via email during 2012. Happy New Year!

Where do I fined the 'performance' governor.?

So I think Ardour and all the team deserve the DAW Ethic Awards Grand Prize. Thanks for all.

People checking out ardour.org and commenting on the last day of 2011 and the first day of 2012 says a lot about how interested users are on Ardour… doesn´t it??

Thanks a lot for all this work devs!

Happy New Year - Feliz Año!!

2012 is one day old and already thrilling!!! I hope Ardour3 will get the attention it deserves. Happy New Year to the Ardour dev team and all supporters! It’s a great experience to follow the development of Ardour and always a pleasure to talk to you folks on irc & the forums

I am a hobby musician and switched from Mac OS to linux not long ago. I am glad to see the straight forward development of Ardour. Otherwise there would be no hope of a Logic/Cubase like project on Linux ! PS: Please accept Bitcoins as donation. It is for free and very uncomplicated.

happy new year folks!! it s a great daw and a great community, thanks so much for that!!

very interesting release for windows, as greatly expanding the number of users daw, and also to keep people interested and the ability to do so by promoting new ideas and other interesting features …

Happy New Year Ardour

warmest congratulations to the team

Happy new year.

I think the dev-team of ardour did a great work in 2011, as always.
If Ardour 3 will be ready, lot of people will be very happy I think, including myself :).

I am really looking forward to the final release of A3, already using the beta in a test production for curiosity. I’m so happy with ardour and I wish all the best for the new year to the whole dev-team.

Great, now I have to spend the entire year logging on to Ardour’s home page every day to find out what new goodie made into the release. Oh, wait, I’m already doing that… !

Seriously, Ardour3 is shaping up nicely enough that I can get real work done with it. Btw, I’ve tested Robin’s video patchset for A3. Amazing stuff, very exciting. Monstrous thanks to Paul and the team !

Respect!
Thanks to you developer-s all “audio” creatives have their tool nr.1

Everyone here is curious for the final release of A3!

System failed the quick sanity check… Looking for the cause

!!! WARNING !!! - Your system seems to use frequency scaling.
This can have a serious impact on audio latency. You have two choices:
(1) turn it off, e.g. by chosing the ‘performance’ governor.
(2) Use the HPET clocksource by passing “-c h” to JACK
(this second option only works on relatively recent computers)
