Ardour 2.8.6 released

Ardour 2.8.6 is released. There is only one one difference to 2.8.5 - VST-enabled builds for Linux are possible. There are no functional changes, and absolutely no changes for OS X, so I am leaving the current version for OS X at 2.8.5. The release was done mostly for the sake of those Linux distributions which provide a VST enabled build and don’t like to work directly from SVN.

Maybe it’s wiser to rename the OSX version also to 2.8.6

Leaving it to 2.8.5 has some disadvantages imho:

  1. you keep getting questions (from newbies), why there is no 2.8.6 version for OSX or when it comes out.
  2. People might think that OSX versions is behind Linux versions, and that OSX is less important for Ardour e.g. that Ardour performs better on Linux then OSX.
  3. if you keep it this way, you might end up with different version numbers for a ‘long’ time.

Its only a version number.

Yes. Exactly until the next release is out.

Let them think it. Thinking normally leads to the truth.

On the same hardware, in my experience, Ardour does perform better on Linux. This is more because of the state of GTK-OSX than anything about Ardour itself, though.
