maudio oxygen8v2 control

Hi all, can you help please?
I have a fresh install of Ubuntu studio 9.10, and for far i haven’t been able to find any instructions on getting the keyboard setup. I can get the keys and pitch wheel working in Qsynth and can record the sounds in Ardour no problem. I just wanted to try out the other functions, play controls / surface and the knobs. I am also hoping to find out about using this device as a sampler for loops etc? What apps should I be looking at? I have looked about on the net but most guides are out of date?
Many thanks
Ian

Just another note,
cat /proc/asound/cards
0 [M2496 ]: ICE1712 - M Audio Audiophile 24/96
M Audio Audiophile 24/96 at 0xc000, irq 17
1 [v2 ]: USB-Audio - USB Oxygen 8 v2
M-Audio USB Oxygen 8 v2 at usb-0000:00:10.2-1, full speed
I also have fxload installed, but not sore what to do with it?
Thanks
Ian

OK, I have made progress, i now have the knobs assigned to the faders working, and got the stop,play and record buttons controlling the record head.Really nice to able to mix on the fly.
I saved the session, hoping to save the oxygen mappings. But when i open i get the following error messages;
[WARNING]: Generic MIDI control: controllable 2 not found in session (ignored)
then for each control.
It lost the mappings.
To get them back i have to go through the whole procedure again, very annoying.
I am loading the template and making sure jack has mapped the oxygen to Ardour midi before selecting the project.
what am i doing wrong. why are the mappings not persistent?
Thanks
Ian

@evozero: i believe this is “just” a bug. Which version of ardour are you using?

@evozero:

I also have this midi controller. Before I was connecting it via midi in the qjackctl midi tab (oxygen>ardour midi in)

Try doing it through the ALSA tab in qjackctl (oxygen>ardour 0:control)

When I reload a session I also loose bindings ONLY for the control buttons but not the dials, I only have to re-assign stop, play and record buttons. The backward and forward buttons for some reason don’t respond, do these two work for you?

For loops and cool sounds you can try the following apps:
SynAddSubFX (Synth sound creator)
amSynth (Synth sound creator)
sequencer24 (midi sequencer which can be used to loop)
